Top 5 Tips for Hosting a Party

  1. Make a mood board, find someone else’s mood board (hint hint: I will be sharing more of my mood boards very soon), or at least just jot down all your ideas in one place so you can get all your thoughts in front of you. From here you can make your lists, doodle ideas and start to think about your general vibe of the event. Big or small - I always do this!

  2. Once you have a general idea or vibe of what you want to do start looking around your home for pieces that will compliment your look. When I decided on a Disneyland party for my daughter, I started noticing cute stuffed animals, books and accessories we already had at home that would look great on display at the party and I started putting everything in a tub as I found them and I also started putting anything I ordered in that same tub so that I was constantly seeing how everything was looking together.

  3. Focus on one focal point or area when you are decorating! This is especially true if you are hosting a party in your home. If you spread decorations out they kind of get lost in your home decor. I love to focus on one area like the area surrounding our dining table. I try to clear everything from that space (home decorations, pictures, etc) and then I start with a clean canvas such as tablecloths or a balloon arch on a blank wall. Then I slowly fill in the space with all my decorations! When they’re in one area it makes it an easy focal point and displays all the items you worked so hard to gather - not to mention it looks AWESOME!

  4. Utilize a color vibe! If someone wants a unicorn party that doesn’t mean you need unicorns and rainbows on every piece of decoration! Choose a few cute unicorn pieces and then stick to colors that just compliment those so you can really make those cute pieces shine! Examples include, a blush tablecloth, unicorn plates, pastel solid colored napkins, a unicorn piñata in the middle of solid pastel colored balloons - you get the deal!

  5. Enjoy your party! When I think back to some of the most fun parties I went to as a kid - most of them had a few streamers taped up, a sheet cake from the grocery store and kool-aid! Point is, don’t overwhelm yourself or stress yourself to the point of not enjoying the day anymore. For me, planning and setting up a party is my hobby and my “me-time” to be creative so that’s why I do it but I promise you, I snap my pictures immediately after setting up and then I enjoy the rest of my day with loved ones which as we all know is the reason for these things!
