Game Day Pretzel Bites
“Mmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmm” - My three year old and also me - proving that these are the perfect crowd pleaser for everyone! I ate so many when we were testing this recipe that I still can’t button the top of my pants but they’re so good I can’t wait to do it again!
Apologies in advance because this is not a food blog so my recipe sharing might not be as smooth as others but I will try my hardest to share how I made these yummies and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!!
Directions:
Dissolve one pack of yeast in 1.5 cups of warm water and gently stir until mixed in (about one minute)
Add 1 tsp salt, 1 tbsp brown sugar and 2 tbsp melted (but not hot) butter into the water and yeast mixture - gently stir
In a large bowl, slowly add 3 cups of flour to the liquid mixture stirring with a wood spoon as you combine
When the dough is forming into one large lump (not sure what else to call it!), move to a floured surface and start kneading with extra flour for about four minutes
Leave dough in a bowl for about ten minutes to rise
While dough is rising: preheat the oven to 425, beat 2 eggs and set aside in a bowl, cover two baking pans with parchment paper or a baking mat and start boiling 8 cups of water with 2/3 cup baking soda
Back to the dough! Cut your dough ball into 8 sections, roll out each section like you’re making one of those snakes out of play-doh and then cut your snake into ~ 2 inch pieces
If the water and baking soda mixture is boiling, then start dropping your pieces of dough into the boiling water - let the pieces sit in the water for ~ 15 seconds and scoop out with a slotted spoon and immediately place on the prepped baking sheets
Use a brush to brush the egg mixture over the pieces on the baking sheet and top with either sea salt or cinnamon and sugar
Pop in the oven for 12 - 15 minutes
Serve hot and enjoy! * Tip: if you’re making cinnamon and sugar bites then I suggest sprinkling a little melted butter on the bites as soon as they’re removed and then topping with a teeny bit of sea salt - YUM *
