Gel Food Coloring Easter Eggs

I will never be buying one of those tablet egg dying kits again! We just dyed eggs at home with food coloring gel that I already have and it was so much easier and bonus I didn’t have to go to the store.

I’m guessing most people have food coloring at home (I used the gel coloring and have no idea what the regular food coloring would be like for this.) and most have vinegar and eggs which means you’re good to go without adding anything to the grocery list!

First boil your eggs. If you’re like me up until three years ago and don’t know how to then here are those instructions - lol!

  • Place eggs carefully on the bottom of a pan

  • Cover with water

  • Put on high heat until boiling

  • Turn heat off and cover for 15 minutes

  • Transfer eggs to a bowl of ice water and let cool for a few minutes

  • * this next step is for egg dying eggs: dip the eggs into vinegar (this helps the color stick)

For the dying:

  • Do a few generous squeezes of your desired color food gel into a bowl or cup

  • Add about a cup of hot water onto the gel

  • Add a splash (probably about 2 - 3 tbsp) of vinegar into the mixture

  • Stir a bit to dissolve clumps

  • Repeat in separate bowls for each color

  • Place your eggs in the bowls and let sit for a few seconds or a few minutes!
